HOW-TO:
Homeopathy is a method of energetic healing that was developed by Samuel Hahnemann. Hahnemann was a
German docter and chemist. After becoming disillusioned with the practices of conventional medicine, he gave up working as
a doctor and became a translator. In 1790 Hahnemann was translating "A Treatise on Materia Medica" by Dr. William Cullen.
In this writing Cullen stated that quinine [a substance purified from the Cinchona tree bark] was a good treatment for malaria.
As a chemist, Hahnemann was baffled, since other more powerful astringents did not have any affect on malaria. He then decided
to research this further by dosing himself with quinine, and recording the result [his reactions] in detail. To his amazement,
he began to develop the symptoms of malaria, even though he did not have nor never contracted malaria. When he dosed himself,
he retained the symptoms for several hours. When not dosing himself, he had no symptoms. He tested others he knew, documanting
the results in what he labeled "provings". All with the same result. He then did provings on other substances as well.
From these experiemental provings over a six year period, Hahnemann began to test the substances on the sick. Before
administering, he would question the patients regarding their symptoms and give a physical examination. Then he would match
the patient's symptoms with the nearest match from his reporatory of medicinal findings. He found the closer the match of
symptoms to remedy, the more successful the treatment.
The Principles of Homeopathy
Hahneman discovered a new system of medicine. This system was that a drug and a disease could produce symptoms that were
similar, and could cancel each other out in some way...restoring an individual's health and well-being. This phenomena was
described as "similia similibus curentur" or "like can cure like". This new medical system he name "homeopathy"
from the Greek word "homeo" [meaning "similar"]
and the Greek word "pathos" [meaning "suffering"].
The Principle of Vital Force
After a period of time, developing remedies in diluted form, he came to realize that the higher degree of dilution created
the more potent they would become. When making the remedies he developed a two-step process of "successing" [shaking
vigorously by banging on a hard surface]releasing the energy of the substance.
He also learned that by diluting the medicines that the results were improved. There were less aggravations and the remedies
acted faster, and more effectively.
Hahnemann had difficulty in understanding how the remedies worked on the human body. He began to reason that there must
be subtle energy within the body that would respond to the remedies enabling the body to heal itself. This subtle energy
was named the "vital force".
